dsic delivered the global first 308k dwt vlcc no.80 “new vitality” with installation of wind sail on nov.13, 2018 successfully. with assistance of wind sail propulsion, the vlcc is about to sail from dalian. china merchants steamship deputy party secretary and deputy general manager liu weiwu, deputy general manager zhang baoliang, and dsic leaders liu zheng, deng changllian and dong xiaodong attended the delivery ceremony.
this is an important innovative product based on combined efforts between domestic shipbuilding industry and shipping industry and another important breakthrough in vlcc brand jointly made by dsic and china merchants steamship, which marks that the domestic r&d team led by dsic have mastered key technology of the wing-type wind sail in its development, design, manufacture and application, accomplished the engineering application of wind sail aboard vlcc with high quality, filled the international gap and created favorable conditions for seizing the commanding point of future shipbuilding technology and maintaining advantages in market competency.
the project of wind sail technology demonstration and application development is a key research project in innovation organized by csic and led by dsic, centering on energy saving and emission reduction of major shiptypes, jointly participated by china merchants steamship, csic no.702 institute, ccs, csname, dalian maritime university and dalian university of technology，etc. since the project was launched in 2015, dsic have organized all participants to show their prowess, from the wing-type wind sail design, dynamic analysis, model test by csic no.702 institute to its design in structure, hydraulic and electric systems related to real ship by dsic, further to various risk evaluations and plan reviews by ccs, and a large number of researches, demonstrations,calculations, tests and analysis jointly conducted by csname, dalian maritime university and dalian university of technology. especially, china merchants steamship, as a major participant and shipowner, have positively driven and safeguarded the green and smart research and application of new technology, taken their real vlcc as a demonstration ship for application of wind sail technology, and provided many feasible proposals and ideas in project r&d. another successful case of domestic industry-college-institute independent and innovative cooperation has been set up through intellect gathering of all participants on the project of wind sail technology demonstration and application development
